Henry and his pup, Misti are back at it again for another amazing year! This year’s event will mark FOUR years of Henry’s seizure free streak (fingers crossed and prayers said)! This year is extra special as Henry has weaned off all of his medications and continues to grow stronger every day. We hope you can help him celebrate this victory and his continued fight! .
On December 28, 2020, while eating breakfast, Henry had an eight minute long grand mal seizure (tonic clonic). After EEG's, MRI's and other testing, everything came back normal so the neurologist chalked it up to being the "one seizure" that every person is allowed to have in their lifetime. So crazy to think about huh, the fact that we all get a free seizure in our life?!
January seemed pretty normal with no signs of seizures and then February came. Henry's mom started seeing some random head drops from Henry (you know the kind....it's like when you are sitting in a meeting and your head nods real quick as you doze off and then you quickly wake yourself back up, It only lasts for a second and if you blink you could miss it). These would happen every now and then so it was hard to understand exactly what it was or record them. Finally after catching a few on video and sending them to the neurologist, Henry was admitted to Barbara Bush for an overnight EEG.
On March 10, 2021 Henry was diagnosed with a rare form of epilepsy, Myoclonic Atonic Epilepsy or also known as Doose Syndrome. A person with MAE can have multiple type of seizures. Henry was experiencing the head drops (myoclonic atonic) and also grand mal seizures (now called tonic clonics). From March until present day Henry has been down to Boston Children's Hospital where he was put onto the ketogenic diet and has been experimenting with a number of medications to find the right formula to help stop his seizures.
Every day Henry and his family fight against this epilepsy battle! As the crusade continues they hope to be able to turn this battle into something good! They hope to raise awareness of the second most common diagnosis of people and also help support those researching and finding ways to win this crusade!
